2020 Grants

Due to Covid-19, extraordinary grants were given to previous projects supported by the foundation.

* Africa Startup:

Objective: Secure funding to sustain the operations of MyFarm and Africa Startup, especially in the wake of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus is on paying staff salaries, maintaining facilities, and ensuring the continuation of educational activities and partnerships with the Gambian Ministry of Education. The goal is to support vulnerable communities by reopening MyFarm for children, enhancing educational initiatives, and developing income-generating activities to ensure long-term sustainability and positive impact in the region.

A total of NOK 200.000 were given to secure the operation.

* MCODE:

Objective: Support female-headed smallholder farmers in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic by enhancing their productivity, resilience, and livelihoods. The project aims to provide immediate relief through the distribution of seeds, organic fertilizers, and emergency food supplies, as well as to improve the infrastructure of a demonstration farm for practical training. Additionally, the project seeks to establish a Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) to promote financial stability among the beneficiaries and ensure the sustainability of MCODE’s operations through income-generating activities.

A total of USD 103,133 was allocated to secure this project, covering emergency food relief, infrastructure strengthening, seedling distribution, cooperative establishment, and administrative costs.

* Nashulai:

Objective of the Nashulai Cultural Training Centre: Train young Maasai in hospitality, eco-tourism, conservation, and cultural studies, targeting employment opportunities in Maasai Mara and promoting cultural and environmental conservation. The center plans to expand its curriculum to include IT, skilled trades, and arts, necessitating upgraded infrastructure such as hostels, solar power, and Wi-Fi.

Objective for Mara Learning Primary School: Tackle significant challenges like insufficient funding for teacher salaries, classroom enhancements, educational materials, and student meals, which affect students from grades one to eight.

A total of USD 95.580 were given to secure previously supported projects. This includes college infrastructure, e-learning infrastructure, building new hostels for the college and teachers salary.

USD 50.000 were given to fund land lease.
